Double Science IGCSE

At Milverton our students study for the Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (Double Award), an internationally recognised and intellectually rigorous qualification. The IGCSE course allows students to study biology, chemistry and physics in separate sections of the syllabus. Students are awarded two grades. The course develops students’ scientific understanding of the world around them and covers the basic fundamental principles of science. It also thoroughly prepares students for study of science beyond IGCSE.

The IGCSE course aims to:

  • Encourage an enjoyment of science
  • Develop scientific knowledge
  • Develop an understanding of experimental skills
  • Develop an understanding of how science can benefit the wider world
  • Enable students to communicate effectively using the correct scientific language and terminology
  • Enable students to apply scientific data and evidence to problem solving
  • Prepare students for further scientific study

Assessment is through three examinations. The combination of examination papers is dependent upon predicted grades.
