Spanish IGCSE

At Milverton our students study for the Cambridge IGCSE in Spanish, an internationally recognised and intellectually rigorous qualification. The IGCSE develops a set of transferable skills for understanding and communicating in everyday situations in Spanish and provides a cultural awareness of countries where Spanish is spoken.  

The IGCSE course aims to:

  • Develop the language proficiency required to communicate effectively in Spanish at basic user level with elements of independent user level.
  • Offer insights into the culture and society of countries and communities where Spanish is spoken.
  • Develop an awareness of language and language learning.
  • Encourage a positive attitude towards speakers of other languages and towards other cultures.
  • Form a sound base of skills, language and attitudes required for further study of Spanish.

 

The subject content is organised into five broad topic areas: 

  • Everyday activities
  • Personal and social life
  • The world around us, 
  • The world of work
  • The international world.

 

Assessment is through four examinations.

  • Paper 1: Listening. 50 minutes. 25%
  • Paper 2: Reading. 1 hour. 25%
  • Paper 3: Speaking. 10 minutes. 25%
  • Paper 4: Writing. 1 hour.  25%
